2012 ACT JUNIORS SELECTION TRIAL
Date : SUNDAY , 12 February 2012
Time : 2 - 5 pm
Venue: Kaleen High School, Baldwin Drive, Kaleen
Age Group : 9 to 16 years
The ACT Badminton Association is seeking players aged 9 to 16 years to join its junior training program.
Potential players will be selected to join the training program. Selection will be based on fitness, athleticism, agility, willingness to work hard, show dedication and commitment towards training and participation in competitions held locally and interstate.
The program is not intended to teach you how to play badminton but to lead you to be an elite player to represent the ACT.

Badminton Training in Indonesia
8 ACT Juniors and upcoming badminton players are taking part in an intensive badminton training in Semarang, Indonesia, under the guidance of Shuen Joe, for several weeks until mid January 2012. They are: Anthony Joe, Jacinta Joe, Gay Lau, Sheehan Lim, Timothy Kwan, Bong Wong, Terrance Wong and Xinyuan Yao. We wish them good luck !.
Thomas and Uber Cups Teams Selection Trials
Anthony Joe and Jacinta Joe have been invited by Badminton Australia to take part in the Teams Selection Trials for the Thomas and Uber Cups which will be conducted at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre, from13 to 15 January 2012. Good luck to both of them.

Congratulations to Sheila Tran for winning the championship with Sydney Team in C grade on Saturday, team SydneyCanberra, captain Ronson Foo, members - Peter, Ronson, Ty, Grace and Sheila.
Also congartulation to Sheila and Olaf Schurmann for being runner-up in B grade team Ozzie Rojak. Team comprised of Olaf Schuermann, Sheila Tran from Canberra, Keith Cho, Grace Ngu and David Purwa from Sydney. Olaf had to catch his flight and missed the prize giving below.
2011 Li-Ning Australian Under 15 Championships
Perth, WA, 6-8 October 11
Congratulations to Sanoja Ramasundara for reaching the Quarter Finals in Girls Singles and Semi Finals in Mixed Doubles (partnering Tyzton Tan, WA) of the Australian U15 Championships held in Perth, WA. Unfortunately she and her partner were beaten at the Mixed Doubles Semi Finals by the number one seed Andre Zopf/Joy Lai in a hard fought match 21-9, 19-21, 21-17.
Andre Zopf/Joy Lai are the eventual winners of the Finals of the U15 Mixed Doubles Championships.
Overall it was a good achievement for Sanoja, she was ranked No: 6 in U15 and was awarded the Sportsmanship Award of the tournament. Well done !

Gungahlin Badminton Club
A new badminton club, Gungahlin Badminton Club (see the flyer), started on Thursday 18 August 2011 from 7.30 to 9.30pm at the Gungahlin College, 23 Gozzard Street, Gungahlin.
This week’s 1st night was a great success. Approx 50 people turned up. The gym has 6 courts and they were well used the whole night.
If you would like to come along for a game please access the gym from the back corner near the basketball and tennis courts. The front door is locked all night.

World Champs Matches to be Streamed Live on YouTube
Matches from the TV court at the upcoming 2011 BWF Yonex World Championships (8 - 14 August) in London will be broadcast live through the BWF's YouTube Channel 
Unfortunately Australia has been excluded from the Live broadcast, as depicted on the BWF note below. "Instant delays of each match will be available Worldwide except in China, United States and Japan. Stay tuned to the delays after the event on the 14th of August in Hong Kong, Malaysia, India, Australia and United Kingdom"

Sydney to Host 2012 Australian Gold Grand Prix
The Australian Gold Grand Prix badminton event will make the move to NSW from 2012. The event will take place at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre at the picturesque Darling Harbour from April 2-8. ....>more
BWF launch official live streaming badminton channel on Youtube
The Badminton World Federation (BWF) is pleased to announce the soft-launch of its official badminton live streaming and Video-on-Demand (VOD) channel.
The online channel, http://badmintonworld.tv hosted on Youtube, the world’s largest video community and hosting platform, is the product of a partnership between the BWF and Google that was facilitated under the advisory of TotalSportsAsia.

2011 SBA Junior Open
21 - 22 May 2011
Congratulations to Sunera Kapugamage (ACT) and Johnny Low (NSW) for winning the U13 Boy's Doubles last weekend in the 2011 SBA Jr Open at Sydney Olympic Park. The pair played against Marcus Guanco (NSW) and Reinhardt Nalzaro (NSW) in the final match winning 30 - 24 in a hard won game.

There were also several ACT Junior players who took part in the tournament, but unfortunately they have to face some stronger players from NSW.
