ACT Interschool Championships

30 October 2012

ACTBA was pleased to host the ACT Interschool Badminton Competition for the first time. It was held at the ANU gym on Tuesday 30 October.

A total of 160 players from 11 different schools participated in an atmosphere of friendly rivalry. It was a team event, divided into two sections - year 7/8 division and year 9/10 division.
The results were

Winner: Telopea
Second: Melrose
Third: Belconnen
Winner: Telopea
Second: Alfred Deakin
Third: Stromlo

It was pleasing to welcome new schools to the competition - St Clares, Canberra Boys Grammar, Amaroo, Kingsford Smith. The other schools who participated were Calwell and Lyneham.
Well done to all players who participated

2012 Li-Ning Australasian Under 17 Championships

11 - 14 April 2012

in Hobart, Tasmania.

Congratulations to Anthony Joe and Sanoja Ramasundara for being the runners-up in BS, BD and XD..

Anthony was a runner-up in Boys Singles losing to Daniel Guda13-21, 19-21

.

Anthony also ended up as a runner-up in Boys Doubles partnering Gavin Ho, losing to Daniel Guda/Austin Yu 14-21, 13-21. In addition, he received a Sportsmanship Award. Congratulations !

Anthony Joe and Sanoja Ramasundara (picture below) ended up as runners-up in Mixed Doubles, losing to Daniel Guda/Jennifer Tam 7-21, 20-22

.

Two other ACT Junior players were also taking part in this tournament. They are: Megan Tran and Raymond Venus, but unfortunately Megan and Raymond lost their Singles matches in the early stages. In overall, it was good achievements and good experience and better luck next time!

CP Maddern Trophy and U19 Championships
8 - 14 July 2012

Darwin, NT

Several ACT badminton players took part in this tournament.

In the CP Maddern Trophy team event, our team, The Territories, combined with the Northern Territory Badminton finished 7th out of eight teams only narrowly lost to WA and Queensland.

In the Individuals event, they did very well and here are the results:

AJ reached the Semifinals in the Men's Singles, Men's Doubles and the Quarterfinals in Mixed Doubles.
Terrance reached the Quarterfinals in Men's Singles.
Terrance partnering Sheehan reached the Quartersfinal in Men's Doubles (lost to Anthony and Seng Low).
Sheehan lost in the Final of the Mixed Doubles Plate.
Sanoja reached the Women's Doubles Quarterfinals.
Bong won the Men's Singles Plate.
Xin-Yuan reached the Men's Singles Semifinal Plate.

AJ was ranked 4th and Terrance was ranked 6th in Men's Singles at the conclusion of the tournament.

ACBA Veterans Tournaments

Sydney 29-30 October 2011

Congratulations to Sheila Tran for winning the championship with Sydney Team in C grade on Saturday, team SydneyCanberra, captain Ronson Foo, members - Peter, Ronson, Ty, Grace and Sheila.

Also congartulation to Sheila and Olaf Schurmann for being runner-up in B grade team Ozzie Rojak. Team comprised of Olaf Schuermann, Sheila Tran from Canberra, Keith Cho, Grace Ngu and David Purwa from Sydney. Olaf had to catch his flight and missed the prize giving below.



2011 Li-Ning Australian Under 15 Championships

Perth, WA, 6-8 October 11

Congratulations to Sanoja Ramasundara for reaching the Quarter Finals in Girls Singles and Semi Finals in Mixed Doubles (partnering Tyzton Tan, WA) of the Australian U15 Championships held in Perth, WA. Unfortunately she and her partner were beaten at the Mixed Doubles Semi Finals by the number one seed Andre Zopf/Joy Lai in a hard fought match 21-9, 19-21, 21-17.

Andre Zopf/Joy Lai are the eventual winners of the Finals of the U15 Mixed Doubles Championships.

Overall it was a good achievement for Sanoja, she was ranked No: 6 in U15 and was awarded the Sportsmanship Award of the tournament. Well done !

2010 Australian Under 15 Championships.

  • Congratulations to Anthony Joe (ACT), for being runner-up in Boy's Singles in the Final of the Australian Under 15 Championships held in Shapperton on 30/9/2010 to 2/10/201, losing to Daniel Guda of NSW.

    Also Congratulations to Anthony Joe for being the winner of the Boy's Doubles partnering Daniel Guda of NSW.

    Anthony Joe also was in the Semi Finals of the Mixed Doubles, partnering with Sanoja Ramasundara (ACT).

    2010 June Bevan Trophy and Australasian U17 Championships, 2 - 10 April. in Perth, Western Australia.

    Some of the ACT Juniors were taking part to combine with the Northern Territory Juniors to form a team "The Territories" in the June Bevan Trophy. After this event, they also competed in the Individuals event.

    The ACT Juniors are: Aaron Chua, Anthony Joe, Sheehan Lim, Bong Wong, Katrina Wong and Terrance Wong.

    The best results ACT junior players have in Juniors National Tournament. All the hard work that they put on during the past six months.

    In Team Event: ACT Team ended at 10th place above the South Australia, Geraldton Western Australia, Central New Zealand 2, and Tasmania.

    Anthony Joe, Singles Final and Doubles Final winner at the Under 13 Interstate Series.

    ACT young and up-coming player Anthony Joe performed well in the Under 13 Tournament, which was held in Melbourne on the weekend of 16 -17 January 2009, winning the boy's singles final and the boy's doubles final.

    Anthony Joe (ACT) defeated Kieren Yong (NSW 1) 30-16 to win the boy’s singles title. Mitchell Gervasoni (Vic) reached the semi-final and Shaun Matthews (Vic) and Jayden Stokie (Vic) won through to the quarter-finals.

    Anthony Joe then combined with Mitchell Gervasoni (Vic) to win the boy’s doubles final defeating Kieren Yong and Austin Au (NSW 1) in the final of the boy’s doubles 30-19.

    Local players stand out in the 2006 ACT Open Badminton

    The ACT Open Badminton Tournament held over the weekend of 8-9 April was attended by several players from NSW as well as local ACT players.

    An outstanding achievement was performed by the Joe family (Shuen, Kam and Jacinta) winning the Open Men’s Singles, the Open Women’s Singles and the A Women’s Singles respectively.  Unfortunately, the fourth member of the family, Anthony, missed out of winning his grade. see more ...>
