SIMPLIFIED NEW RALLY POINTS SCORING SYSTEM

Toss

  • Before starting play, toss a coin or spin a racquet.  The winner of the toss may either serve first, receive first or choose the end to start.   The loser may choose from what remains.

Scoring System

A match consists of the best of 3 games of 21 points.

The side winning a rally adds a point to its score.

At 20 all, the side which gains a 2 point lead first, wins that game.

At 29 all, the side scoring the 30th point, wins that game.

The side winning a game serves first in the next game.

Intervals and Change of Ends

When the leading score reaches 11 points, players have a 60 second interval.

A 2 minute interval between each game is allowed.

In the third game, players change ends when a side scores ll. Points.

Singles

At the beginning of the game and when the score is even, the server serves from the right service court.  When it is odd, the server serves from the left service court.

If the server wins a rally, the server scores a point and then serves again from alternate service court.

If the receiver wins a rally, the receiver scores a point and becomes the new server.

Doubles

There is only one serve in doubles (see attached diagram).  The service passes consecutively to the players as shown in the attached diagram.

At the beginning of the game and when the score is even, the server serves from the right court.  When it is odd, the server serves from the left court.

If the serving side wins a rally, the serving side scores a point and the same server serves again from the alternate service court.

If the receiving side wins a rally, the receiving side scores a point.  The receiving side becomes the new serving side.

The player of the receiving side who served last stays in the same service court from where he served last.  The reverse pattern applies to the receiver’s partner

The players do not change their respective service courts until they win a point when their side is serving.

If players commit an error in the service court, the error is corrected when the mistake is discovered

Faults
It is a fault

  • if the service is not delivered correctly,
  • if the server misses the shuttle,
  • if the shuttle lands outside the court, fails to clear the net, touches the ceiling or side walls, touches the person or clothes of a player,
  • if the shuttle has not passed over the net when it is hit,
  • if a player touches the net with person, clothes or racquet,
  • if the shuttle is slung or double hit,
  • if the shuttle is hit by both partners in succession.

Service

  • The server and receiver shall stand within diagonally opposite service courts without touching the court boundary lines,
  • Part of both feet of both of these players must remain in contact with the ground until the service is struck,
  • The whole shuttle shall be below the server’s waist at the instant of being hit by the server’s racket. The waist shall be considered to be an imaginary line round the body, level with the lowest part of the server’s bottom rib;
  • The shaft of the server’s racket at the instant of hitting the shuttle shall be pointing in a downward direction
  • The server's racquet must continue forwards after the start of the service,
  • If not intercepted by the receiver, the service must fall within the diagonal service court to be fair.

Singles
  • Service shall be from the right court when the score is zero or an even number.  It shall be from the left court when the score is odd,
  • The shuttle is hit by the server and receiver alternately until a fault is made or the shuttle ceases to be in play when it touches the floor inside the court,
  • If the receiver makes a fault or the shuttle touches the floor inside his court, the server scores a point and continues to serve from the alternate court,
  • If the server makes a fault or the shuttle touches the floor inside his court, the receiver takes the serve and add one pint to his/her score.
Doubles
  • At the start of a game the service shall be from the right court,
  • Only the receiver shall touch the service.  Should the receiver's partner touch the shuttle, it is a fault,
  • After the service is returned, either partner may hit the shuttle,
  • If the server's side wins the rally, a point is scored and the server continues to serve from alternate courts until a point is lost.  Then the receiver will take the service and add a point to his/her score and continues to serve until a point is lost,
  • The winning side starts serving in the next game.  Either partner may start the service.
